This Stephen Alonzo Jackson Weekend of Giving, we're asking you to make a tax-deductible donation to support a cause near and dear to the Theta-Omega Chapter– the creation of a new Scholarship-Leadership Award named in honor of Brother Roger D. "Rocky" Walton, Esq. 100% of your gift, in the amount of $10.34, $50.34, $150.34, $340, $3,400, or $34,000, will help fund this special scholarship.
Our goal is to raise $50,000 to establish a permanent $2,000 annual Scholarship in Brother Waltons's name that will benefit a Theta-Omega Chapter Brother every year in perpetuity. In the event Theta-Omega does not reach the $50,000 threshold during the Weekend but reaches $25,000, it will automatically create a $1,000 annual Scholarship-Leadership Award. All amounts raised shy of $25K between or over $50K will be directed to the existing Chapter Scholarship Fund to benefit Theta-Omega undergraduates.
Roger D. “Rocky” Walton’s journey from a modest Texas farm to becoming one of the most respected attorneys in his field is an inspiring story of perseverance, ambition, and dedication to excellence. Born to teenage parents on a one-bedroom farm in Brazos Point, Texas, Brother Walton learned the value of hard work from a young age. His family’s move to Cleburne, where they had an indoor restroom for the first time, marked a turning point in his life, one that fueled his desire to rise beyond his circumstances. Brother Walton’s life is a remarkable example of how the values instilled in Kappa Sigma—hard work, integrity, and a commitment to serving others—can shape a man’s journey to success.
Brother Walton’s interest in law was sparked at the age of 12 when his family moved to Fort Worth, and he became captivated by his father’s Business Law book. Despite his grandfather’s doubt—"Rocky, you will never make a lawyer"—his determination never faltered. While attending the University of Texas at Arlington, Brother Walton was initiated into the Theta-Omega Chapter of Kappa Sigma in 1969. With his college sweetheart Sharon by his side, he paid for his education through hard work and student loans, eventually graduating and earning his Juris Doctorate from St. Mary’s University Law School. He then went on to earn an advanced law degree (LL.M.) in taxation and securities from Southern Methodist University Law School, an achievement few Texas lawyers attain.
Determined to be the best, Brother Walton became a board-certified specialist in Personal Injury Trial Law, a distinction only 2.2% of Texas lawyers hold. His success earned him the prestigious AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell and recognition as a "Top Attorney in Tarrant County" by Fort Worth Magazine. Additionally, Brother Walton fulfilled his childhood aspiration to become a politician by serving two terms on the Arlington City Council from 1990 to 1994.
Despite his many accomplishments, what Brother Walton cherishes most is the opportunity to serve his clients and bring them financial justice. He and Sharon, his wife of many years, continue to enjoy a fulfilling life, with Brother Walton often unwinding by playing guitar, a passion he has pursued for decades. Today, Brother Walton remains a living testament to how Kappa Sigma shapes men of character, integrity, and success. He is someone who inspires fellow Brothers to live by these same ideals, both in their professional and personal lives.
The Roger D. "Rocky" Walton, Esq. Scholarship-Leadership Award will be given annually to a Theta-Omega undergraduate member who excels in scholarship, leadership, and community service, all of which reflect the example Brother Walton has provided.
