This Stephen Alonzo Jackson Weekend of Giving, we're asking you to make a tax-deductible donation to support a cause near and dear to the Epsilon-Gamma Chapter– the creation of a new Scholarship-Leadership Award named in honor of Brother William R. Elmore. 100% of your gift, in the amount of $10.34, $50.34, $150.34, $340, $3,400, or $34,000, will help fund this special scholarship.
Our goal is to raise $50,000 to establish a permanent $2,000 annual Scholarship in Brother Elmore's name that will benefit an Epsilon-Gamma Chapter Brother every year in perpetuity. In the event Epsilon-Gamma does not reach the $50,000 threshold during the Weekend but reaches $25,000, it will automatically create a $1,000 annual Scholarship-Leadership Award. All amounts raised shy of $25K between or over $50K will be directed to the existing Chapter Scholarship Fund to benefit Epsilon-Gamma undergraduates.
Brother Elmore, a 1967 initiate of the Epsilon-Gamma Chapter, has been instrumental in shaping the Chapter into what it is today. His dedication to Kappa Sigma and its Four Pillars has set a lasting example for generations of Brothers. Through his vision, leadership, and unwavering loyalty, he has helped build a legacy that ensures future members have a place to gather, grow, and uphold the traditions of Epsilon-Gamma. His commitment to the Fraternity is a testament to the ideals of The Star and Crescent.
Born and raised in Haynesville, Louisiana, Brother Elmore grew up on a dairy farm before graduating from Haynesville High School in 1965. He enrolled at Louisiana Tech University in 1966 and, during his final quarter, enlisted in the Army National Guard. Having already been sworn into service, he was exempted from the draft and later graduated from Louisiana Tech in 1969. He also completed Officer Candidate School for the United States Army, launching a distinguished military career.
Professionally, Brother Elmore began his career in sales at SWEPCO, working in Shreveport, Louisiana. His leadership abilities quickly propelled him to Vice President, overseeing operations across Texas. In 1985, he became the first SWEPCO executive sent to the prestigious Harvard Executive Program. He later advanced to Vice President of Marketing at West Texas Utilities before taking on a leadership role at Central and Southwest Corporation, where he managed business development, marketing, wholesale power, and transactions with Mexico. Following the sale of CSW to American Electric Power, he opted for early retirement and embarked on a new Chapter of entrepreneurship and community service.
Brother Elmore has since held numerous leadership roles, serving as president of the Rotary Club and owning several businesses, including insurance agencies, home health services, psychiatric hospitals, commercial real estate ventures, and a communications company. He has also been deeply involved in his faith community at Temple Baptist Church, where he has served as a deacon, usher, and Sunday School director.
After a distinguished military career, Brother Elmore retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. His lifelong dedication to his family, Fraternity, community, and country embodies the highest ideals of honor, leadership, and service.
The William R. Elmore Scholarship-Leadership Award will be given annually to a Epsilon-Gamma undergraduate member who excels in scholarship, leadership, and community service, all of which reflect the example Brother Elmore has provided.
