This Stephen Alonzo Jackson Weekend of Giving, we're asking you to make a tax-deductible donation to support a cause near and dear to the Gamma Chapter– the creation of a new Scholarship-Leadership Award named in honor of Speaker Mike Johnson. 100% of your gift, in the amount of $10.34, $50.34, $150.34, $340, $3,400, or $34,000, will help fund this special scholarship.
Our goal is to raise $50,000 to establish a permanent $2,000 annual Scholarship in Brother Johnson's name that will benefit a Gamma Chapter Brother every year in perpetuity. In the event Gamma does not reach the $50,000 threshold during the Weekend but reaches $25,000, it will automatically create a $1,000 annual Scholarship-Leadership Award. All amounts raised shy of $25K between or over $50K will be directed to the existing Chapter Scholarship Fund to benefit Gamma undergraduates.
Speaker Mike Johnson is the 56th Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and a Republican Member of Congress proudly serving Louisiana’s Fourth District.
On October 25, 2023, Johnson was unanimously elected by his House Republican colleagues to serve as the Speaker, earning the honor faster than any person in history except for Speaker John G. Carlisle in 1883. As a Member of Congress, he represents the nearly 760,000 residents of 16 parishes in the northwest and western regions of Louisiana. Johnson was first elected to Congress in 2016 by the largest margin of victory in his region in more than 50 years.
As Speaker, Johnson has worked to grow the House Republican majority and promote policies that adhere to seven core principles of conservatism: Individual freedom, limited government, the rule of law, peace through strength, fiscal responsibility, free markets, and human dignity.
With two decades of previous experience in Constitutional law and in the Louisiana Legislature, Speaker Johnson previously served on the House Judiciary Committee, and as chairman of its Subcommittee on the Constitution and Limited Government. A former chairman of the Republican Study Committee, the largest caucus of conservatives in Congress, Johnson worked to pass President Donald Trump’s agenda items and served as a leader on the Select Committee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government, the House Natural Resources Committee, and the House Armed Services Committee. Representing important military installations throughout Louisiana, Speaker Johnson has also led efforts to support our troops and veterans.
Brother Johnson is a dedicated husband and father and an attorney who has devoted his life and career to fighting for the fundamental freedoms and traditional values that have made America the greatest nation in the history of the world. The eldest son of a Shreveport firefighter who was critically burned and permanently disabled in the line of duty, Brother Johnson learned early on the values of hard work, honor, and sacrifice. Brother Johnson earned his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Louisiana State University in 1995, and his Juris Doctorate from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University in 1998. He and his wife Kelly, a former teacher and now a Licensed Pastoral Counselor, have been married since 1999. Today, their family resides in Bossier Parish.
The Speaker Mike Johnson Scholarship-Leadership Award will be given annually to a Gamma undergraduate member who excels in scholarship, leadership, and community service, all of which reflect the example Brother Johnson has provided.
