#SAJGIVING HAS ENDED BUT THERE IS STILL TIME TO MAKE A GIFT HERE!
Beta-Theta (Indiana University)
Support Kappa Sigma at Indiana University

This Stephen Alonzo Jackson Weekend of Giving, we're asking you to make a tax-deductible donation to support a cause near and dear to the Beta-Theta Chapter– the creation of a new Scholarship-Leadership Award named in honor of Brother James T.  "Jim" Morris. 100% of your gift, in the amount of $10.34, $50.34, $150.34, $340, $3,400, or $34,000, will help fund this special scholarship.

Our goal is to raise $50,000 to establish a permanent $2,000 annual Scholarship in Brother Morris's name that will benefit a Beta-Theta Chapter Brother every year in perpetuity. In the event Beta-Theta does not reach the $50,000 threshold during the Weekend but reaches $25,000, it will automatically create a $1,000 annual Scholarship-Leadership Award. All amounts raised shy of $25K between or over $50K will be directed to the existing Chapter Scholarship Fund to benefit Beta-Theta undergraduates.

James T. Morris ’65 was a dedicated Kappa Sigma brother, visionary leader, and lifelong advocate for service, community, and children in need. His unwavering commitment to improving the world around him—from his hometown of Indianapolis to the most impoverished corners of the globe—embodied the true spirit of leadership and philanthropy.

A proud graduate of Indiana University, Jim’s journey of leadership began with Kappa Sigma, where he built lifelong friendships and a passion for service. It was, fittingly, at a birthday party for George, the Beta-Theta Chapter dog, that he met his beloved wife, Jackie. This bond, formed in Brotherhood and love for IU, remained a cornerstone of his life for nearly 60 years.

After earning his degree in political science, Jim quickly ascended to influential leadership roles, first as Chief of Staff to Indianapolis Mayor Richard Lugar, then as President of the Lilly Endowment, and later as Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Programme, where he led global efforts to combat hunger. He also served as Vice Chairman of Pacers Sports & Entertainment, believing deeply in the power of sports to unite communities. Jim’s vision for Indianapolis and Indiana helped transform them into thriving cultural, economic, and civic hubs.

His legacy of service extended to countless organizations, including Indiana University, the U.S. Olympic Committee, and many more. He was a mentor to generations of young professionals, founding the James T. Morris Leadership Series to cultivate future leaders with a global perspective.

The James T.  "Jim" Morris Scholarship-Leadership Award will be given annually to a Beta-Theta undergraduate member who excels in scholarship, leadership, and community service, all of which reflect the example Brother Morris provided.

Now is the time to rally behind this historic initiative and honor the lasting legacy of Brother James T.  "Jim" Morris. Donate Now!
